In the August issue of Plymouth Magazine we're celebrating our 10th anniversary! From our top 10 favorite local dishes and 10 best stories, to our 10 tips for utilizing technology in the classroom and our profile of Plymouth's most promising Prep Elite students, we're looking back over the past decade with fondness and ahead to a bright future. 

Did you notice? There’s been a deliberate “10” theme going on throughout this issue of Plymouth Magazine, and it’s definitely by design. As our official 10-year Anniversary Issue, we wanted to highlight all of our regulars in spots of 10.

 

There’s a reason certain restaurants become classics— it’s because they are great. But what do we mean by “great,” and how did they get to be so? Ahhh. The answer’s a hard-to-pinpoint, know-it-when-you-see-it yet enchanting mix of atmosphere, food and service.

 

Despite a little rain, Plymouthites came out in droves for an evening of concerts, Live at the Hilde; families and friends gathered as early as happy hour, and performances began at 7:30 p.m. on June 6.

 

In 2001, the idea that eventually led to Blues Brews ’N’ BBQs was born.

 

No one becomes great on their own. Each year, we highlight just a handful of the youth we deem “elite” in some way, shape or form—often in more ways than one—whether it be sports prowess, academic acumen or artistic fervor.

 

Teachers are no strangers to their students dreading necessary homework. As a result, many have begun “flipping” their classrooms and teaching methods in an effort to not only lessen the amount of traditional homework, but also make learning in general more efficient.

 

With a population of just more than 70,000, the city of Plymouth ranks as the third largest suburb of the Twin Cities metro area. It is also “America’s Best Place to Live,” according to Money Magazine 2008 (and it’s ranked in the top 10 again since then).

 

Get your library card ready! Friends of the Plymouth Library, a volunteer-based organization devoted to the support and betterment of Hennepin County Library, is ready to help you and your family hit the books this fall.

 
Volunteers at Interfaith Outreach & Community Partners are looking for all of these school supplies at the organization’s annual drive this month.

Pretty soon, thousands of kids across Plymouth are going to be slipping their backpacks on, hopping on that familiar big yellow bus and going back to school. While this is an exciting time of the year, we all know that back-to-school-supply shopping doesn’t always come cheap.

 

Matthew Kauffmann’s award-winning photo was taken early one morning in August after he’d gone out for his regular morning bike ride. “I saw the glassy lake and thought I should scoot home and grab my camera,” he says.

 

Summer flew by, and now it’s that time again—the beginning of the school year. Getting ready can be stressful, especially for those planning for college.

 

No need to wait until Halloween to get your scare fix this year. On Labor Day weekend, Terror at Camp Somerset will come to Somerset, Wisconsin.

 

For the third year, Interfaith Outreach & Community Partners (IOCP) will host the Learning for a Lifetime campaign celebrating the vast educational opportunities the Plymouth nonprofit offers.

 

Born from a mother’s pursuit of non-toxic baby clothes, Cutie Bees is an everyday lifestyle brand offering chic wardrobe ensembles for children ages 0–24 months.

 

Wayzata High School sophomore Colleen Donlin says she’s been a “water bug” for as long as she can remember. As a child, she swam every summer with the Minnesota swim team, the Aquajets, and started synchronized swimming at age 10 with the Minnesota Synchronettes.
