Northern Pines Harmony Brigade Extreme Quartetting Weekend Rally

The Northern Pines Harmony Brigade had such a good time hosting its Extreme Quartetting weekend here at the Crowne Plaza Minneapolis West that the group decided to come back.  Participants are partnered randomly with three other singers, then given 10 songs to perform in a competition. Registration includes two nights at the hotel, five meals and the music you’ll use during the competition along with professionally prepared learning tracks. Minnetonka Symphony Orchestra’s 33rd Annual Young People’s Concert Series

As part of the ongoing “Music at Wayzata” concert series, the Wayzata Community Church is hosting the Minnetonka Symphony Orchestra’s annual Young People’s concert. In this performance, the winner of the Young Artists’ Competition will play alongside the orchestra. This year’s featured piece is Benjamin Britten’s “Young People’s Guide to the Orchestra,” as heard in Wes Anderson’s 2012 movie Moonrise Kingdom. Jazz Impressions Dinner and Dance

The Plymouth Arts Council has organized a night of food, dancing and great music for the holiday of love. Mintahoe Catering provides the buffet-style dining, and up-and-coming international superstars Davina and the Vagabonds provide the music. The blues/jazz band got itsstart right here in Minnesota, but now bring the unique retro-inspired sound to festivals from Switzerland to Romania to Norway. Improv Show

The Wayzata High School Drama Club’s Improv Troupe meets throughout the school year to practice their improvisation skills, so they can show them off in this annual show.  You never quite know what to expect seeing this talented group perform, but it’s always impressive.  763.745.6621. The Del Counts

Minnesota Music Hall of Fame inductees The Del Counts, features frontman Charlie Schoen, known as “the human jukebox”, bassist Bobby Jones, who has been a part of the local music scene since 1966, and James “Owl” Walsh, the only musician in Minn. history to win six individual Minnesota Music Hall of Fame awards.  The Del Counts play just about any rock and roll song from the 50’s, 60’s, or early 70’s. One Act Play Competition

Every year the Minnesota State High School league sponsors a one-act play competition.  Theater students per school from all over the state will prepare and perform a 35 minute one-act play for a group of official judges, who will award ‘starred performances’ to plays deemed exceptional.  Wayzata High School’s theater department will be participating this year; judges will be at both performances. 7:30 pm. 763.745.6600.
