This past year was the first in 18 that I didn’t have to go back-to-school shopping. Yes, I had to go with my son to buy a few notebooks when we dropped him off for college, but the whole “let’s plan a day and buy supplies”; no. I’ll admit, I was a bit sad. It was, for all intents and purposes, the end of an era.

Paying it forward is a concept that a Greenwood Elementary School fifth-grade class is learning first hand with its involvement in the Plymouth Police Department’s Path of Kindness program.
“Everybody has the power to make a difference,” says Sara Cwayna, a public safety education specialist. “There’s the cliché that you receive more in giving than you do in receiving. This lets kids see the power of that.”

Behind the scenes of a reality TV show is an assignment locale I had never visited before I crashed the Plymouth set of the DIY Network show Bath Crashers in December.
I’d be remiss to not say it was a little bit exciting as the producer and tech support milled about the remodeled bathroom of one lucky Plymouth woman.
I was alone in that feeling. As the on-air talent was taking their marks, one of the assistants next to me yawned.

When it comes to philanthropies, there aren’t many causes more worthy than feeding a famished population of people. And there may not be a pocket of the world more in need than drought-ridden Somalia, which Antonio Guterres, head of the United Nations Relief Agency, calls home to “the worst humanitarian disaster” in the world.
But what can a person living in the Minnesota suburbs possibly do to put a dent in 12 million starving Somalis, Kenyans, and Ethiopians currently facing the worst drought since the 1950s? It just sounds daunting.
