Regardless of what the groundhog might say, winter is coming to an end and, with it, our excuses for hiding out indoors wrapped in snuggies and sweatpants. It’s time to refresh that look! But what to do, and when? Personal upkeep can sometimes seem as much a chore as a treat when life gets in the way.
Well, Plymouth Magazine to the rescue. This year we’ve asked Simonson’s and Lillian’s to donate services for one lucky reader to receive a mini makeover—for free!
What you do: In 300 words or fewer, convince us as to why you need a spa day/makeover from Simonson’s and a wardrobe consult from Lillian’s at Urban Market. Fun fact: We ran a similar contest in 2005, and the essays we received at the time were tear-jerkers, to be sure. One in particular rang true: It was written by a 30-something young father of two who had a rare and aggressive form of cancer. At the time, his prognosis was uncertain, but he’d been battling for more than two years, and he was writing to nominate his wife for the treat, stating “she’s not only taken care of our kids, but me, these past two years, and she deserves one day to herself.” But that didn’t guarantee the win: The funny, ironic and poetic entries this essay was up against equally caught our attention and made the finalist list at the time, so dust off those writing chops today!
