Veteran’s Day—November 11
Originally known as Armistice Day, the date to honor veterans was chosen to be the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month—November 11, 1918 at 11 a.m., when there was a temporary cessation of hostilities between the Allied nations and Germany. The day honors U.S. veterans of all wars and conflicts. The name was changed to Veteran’s Day by President Eisenhower, to include veterans of World War II and the Korean War.
