Plymouth Magazine enjoys showcasing the lake community in a number of ways, and that includes sharing readers’ points of view through what they see, appreciate and capture with their cameras.

Each August, we encourage readers to submit their favorite photos to our Picture Plymouth photo contest. Whether it’s a picture of their family, pets, a local landmark or a beautiful landscape they saw while out and about, we want to see it! Afternoon Skate, Amy Wilcox

Afternoon Skate, which placed second in the People and Families category of our annual Picture Plymouth photo contest, was taken by Amy Wilcox.

Her husband Joseph and daughter Maisie, 4-and-a-half years old when the photo was taken, were enjoying some skating time on the frozen pond behind their Plymouth home.

Wilcox, who was pregnant at the time and unable to skate with her family, took the photo with a Canon camera and, “enjoyed hearing giggles from both of them,” she says. Read more about Pair Skating

Winter Fog

“I’ve always been a water baby,” says Jim Strand, a Plymouth photographer. Strand is a retired computer production manager, but he’s had a love for photography since he was 18 years old.

Strand was stationed at Fort Lewis in Washington state for a short time in his youth. Compared to his hometown of Madison, Wis., the mountains and hills of the West Coast were a far different experience than the lakes of the Midwest. Struck by the beauty, Strand began his photography hobby, primarily focusing on pictures of nature. Read more about Winter Fog

Picture Plymouth: Relaxing in the Sun

Minnesota weather means bundling up in coats and layers for most of the year, but warmer weather in full swing calls for breaking out the colorful clothes. Last summer, 5-year-old Livy MacCourt was enjoying the day and looking at the water off the pier at Wayzata Beach.

But she was also modeling her new sundress for her mom, Jenny MacCourt. A pattern tester, MacCourt calls upon her two daughters to model and try out the sewing designs.
