Stay Hydrated This Winter Season

Beat the dry air this fall and winter with these products.

We checked with local salons and med spas for a beauty product round-up. Here are their recommendations to help you keep your skin hydrated and hair looking fabulous.

Frizzy Hair

At this time of year, static and frizz only get worse as the air dries out. Stylist Lori McCoy from Christopher J Salon recommends Living Proof’s No Frizz Humidity Shield. What’s great about this product is that it can be applied to dry or already-styled hair. McCoy says it is a huge seller at Christopher J in both summer and winter.

Men’s Hair Product

Women aren’t the only ones who can use a new hair product for the fall. Holly Klenschold, a stylist at Simonson’s Salon and Spa, recommends Kevin Murphy Rough Rider for men. This is a strong hold clay that works great with hair that is either fine or thick. It also has nourishing ingredients such as bamboo and soybean oil, which help keep hair healthy.

Dry Hair

“Just like our skin, our hair dries out in the winter,” says stylist Jonnel Karjala from New Reflections Salon & Spa. She recommends using Aveda Dry Remedy shampoo and conditioner, a huge seller at New Reflections. Karjala likes it because it contains buriti oil, which is self-sustaining and keeps your hair looking fresh and healthy.

Chapped Lips

As the air gets drier, chapped or cracked lips become more common. Thankfully, massage therapist Kimberly Rubel from New Reflections Salon & Spa has a recommendation. Aveda’s Lip Saver contains many natural oils, such as jojoba oil and candelilla wax, which help keep lips moisturized so they won’t dry out.

Dry Skin

With the change of seasons, Sue Jaksa, owner of Gr8 Skin Med Spa, says it is important to change up your skin routine. She recommends Epionce Renewal Face Cream or HA5 Rejuvenating Hydrator by SkinMedica. Both are available at Gr8 Skin and are extremely hydrating, which is helpful during drier months.
