Two Pony Gardens is a green floral oasis that features the tranquility of the countryside, but is actually no further than 15 minutes west of Plymouth in Long Lake. The farm grows heirloom tomatoes and dahlias which can be viewed and purchased at their popular summer pizza nights. Two Pony Gardens holds these events to promote their sustainable growing practices, “in the hopes of spreading the love for nature and our very precious ecosystem,” according to their website.
The farm is hosting two pizza events per month throughout October on Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons. This month’s events will be on Saturday, August 12 and Sunday, August 13. Every event is inspired by a different theme. In the past, themes have included Warbler Walk, Frogs and Wildflowers, Morel Mushrooms, Baby Farm Animals, Honeybee Demonstration, Horse and Carriage Rides and Music in the Dahlia Garden. These themes can play out in a variety of ways, but often are revealed in the ingredients chosen for that night’s special pizza.
Tickets sell out quickly; prices are $10 for children and $41.72 for adults. One ticket gets you all the pizza you can handle and access to the farm and any live entertainment scheduled for the event. People are welcome to bring in their own blankets and chairs, as well as snacks and beverages as refreshment while waiting.
Two Pony Gardens, named eponymously after its two resident horses, is unique in its offerings, which will be available for purchase at the pizza events. The farm grows more than 50 varieties of heirloom tomatoes, and 100 varieties of dahlias that visitors can purchase as a plant or as cut flowers. The farm’s focus on environmental and social responsibility is evident in owner Lisa Ringer’s unbridled passion and excitement to teach people about the importance of sustainable eating. The farm is also available for weddings, corporate or private events, and rustic yurt getaways.
