This February, the Seven Dreams Education Foundation is bringing back Bird Bash for its fourth annual fundraising event. Each year, donations through Bird Bash are aimed toward a specific project for Robbinsdale Area schools. In years past, the organization has funded STEM projects, engineering programs and a media center. This year, Bird Bash hopes to raise $50,000 to promote literacy in diversity.
“We want to teach educators about reaching diverse students, as well as stock our libraries with diverse literature for students to enjoy,” says Alana Erickson, who has been co-chair of the event for the past three years and is a committee member. Erickson also volunteers on the board of directors for Seven Dreams.
Bird Bash has raised more than $125,000 in the past three years, and is poised to reach its $50,000 goal this year. “We had 500 people come to the 2016 gala, which sold out the event,” says Erickson, adding that many guests came from local Plymouth area businesses.
For Erickson and Seven Dreams, it’s essential that business owners and individuals in the community engage with local schools. “Great schools make for a strong community,” and Bird Bash is a great yearly event representing that unity.
