We’ve seen Peg Brantman’s work among the finalists at Picture Plymouth before—it’s clear she has a natural eye. But overall excellence in the annual Picture Plymouth photo contest is a prize, even for an accomplished artist such as Brantman. “I am so surprised and pleased,” she says, adding, “I almost didn’t enter this photo, choosing it over another I had considered.”
Brantman has lived in Plymouth with her husband, Frank, since 1989. A couple of years ago, she retired after 20 years as the card lady at Walgreens on Vinewood and Rockford Road, “to spend more time playing with my photography,” she says. “At present, I’m loving my photography group, based in Mound.”
Brantman’s camera is ever at the ready, she says, just in case she sees something she wants to shoot. For this particular image, “I was sitting in my usual Sunday spot in the front of the St. Joe’s Little Church when I noticed the sun shining through the stained-glass window to the left of the altar,” she says.
She’s currently shooting with a Canon Power Shot SX50HS, a wonderfully advanced point and shoot, she says, with many features of a dSLR. Through her photo club, Brantman has ventured into the realm of post-processing, but she hasn’t tried Photoshop or Lightroom yet, she says, preferring instead the online photo editing program PicMonkey, which she used to enhance the radiance of this image.
