Growing Up

With a new name and a new logo, Bloom Early Learning and Childcare Center offers Plymouth families a chance to thrive.

Nearly 15 years ago, Kids Care Connection (KCC) grew out of Pastor Rollie Robinson’s challenge to his Messiah United Methodist congregation to “serve the needs of single mothers and low-income families.” KCC achieved this by providing a childcare center that included students from both affluent and low-income families via scholarships.

Fast-forward to 2015, and this same mission is still being fulfilled, although the look of the center is much different—KCC is now Bloom Early Learning and Childcare Center. The effort to rebrand the center rose from a desire to stand out to local families and show that quality, accredited childcare is available, regardless of income. Board member and marketing committee chair Marylou Hay says that what sets Bloom apart is “how we care.”

Bloom’s new logo, a butterfly, also expresses this unique nurturing environment: “Poverty is an insidious societal problem … [the butterfly] is all about transforming,” says Hay. By the time the Bloom infants, toddlers and preschoolers enter school, they are “not only ready to learn, but ready to thrive.”
