You don’t have to be a fish-lover to be a fan of sushi, and now those residing in Plymouth have another reason to celebrate, with the addition of Sakana Sushi last year. The new location, third in the Twin Cities, not only features the extensive sushi and Asian bistro menu, but hibachi as well.
Sakana Sushi was started by two talented chefs who moved to Minnesota from New York City. The Plymouth restaurant is located in the strip mall across from Cub Foods on Rockford Road.
Sakana’s owners wanted to make this third location different than the Wayzata and St. Paul locales, which sparked the idea to incorporate hibachi-style grilling, in which chefs prepare visual presentations right at the table. General manager Dan Tran hopes this will create a busier atmosphere. “We combined two spaces into one and were able to add the hibachi grills and full bar,” he says.
This month, try two of the more popular items on the menu:
White Tiger Roll, $16.95
This vibrant roll tastes even better than it looks. Features salmon, tuna, yellowtail, avocado and tobiko wrapped in white seaweed.
Wild Black Cod Miso, $21.95
This dish is featured on Sakana’s House Special menu: wild-caught black cod filleted in an orange miso glaze and served with a side of Asian greens and sweet potato tempura.
