Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre is a professional touring theater company, but with a twist: The troupe works with local kids to put on the show, providing professional sets, props, costumes and direction. Plymouth parks and recreation has worked with Prairie Fire before, putting on productions including Wizard of Oz, Cinderella, and Beauty and the Beast. “Prairie Fire has been a great organization to work with,” recreation supervisor for arts and music Alyssa Krumholz says. This year, Plymouth parks and rec has invited Prairie Fire back to put together the original musical rendition of Pinocchio.
Up to 70 children (between ages 8 and 14) can pay the $100 registration fee for the chance to work closely with two professional directors. Registration continues through February 17 or until all spots are filled. Rehearsals start that day, when kids audition for parts—each participant is guaranteed a spot.
Two performances will be held at Plymouth Creek Center with very limited seating, the first at 7 p.m. February 21, and the second at 2 p.m. February 22. Performances are free to attend. “It’s a great opportunity for our community youth to receive a full ‘theatrical’ experience in one week!” Krumholz says.
