A local non-profit is seeking to capture the camaraderie within the local home brewer community and help make the world a better place, one beer at a time. Behind this idea is Plymouth resident and home brewer Josh Janos.
“Brewing is my hobby, my passion. I brew about once a month, focusing both on new recipes and perfecting my favorites,” says Janos, who works at Target corporate offices in the strategy and innovation department.
He has also dabbled in competition brewing, receiving awards locally and nationally. While he’s passionate about brewing, Janos says family — his wife, Megan, and their two children, a 4-year-old daughter and a 2-year-old son — is the “highlight of my life.”
Nearly five years ago Janos had the idea to open a small neighborhood nano-brewery. After talking it over with his wife, they decided it was not the right time in their lives to make such a large commitment. So instead, he started Good Company Brewing in August 2016.
At first, it was an online blog where Janos, who always enjoyed sharing his beer with friends and family, would talk about some of his experiences growing his own beer ingredients and how he used them.
A close friend then asked if Janos would consider donating some of his home brew to a fundraiser. Just like that, the idea sprouted to use his home brew to raise funds for good causes. Then the work began on how to develop an online charitable giving platform where they can give the money to a charity of their choice.
The mission begins with a pay-it-forward platform so that when customers get a free beer, they can return the favor by donating to a non-profit (and can even get a tax deduction for doing it). All of this just for drinking a beer. This year, Good Company has raised more than $3,000 for non-profits. Now that’s something to raise a glass to.
