A house becomes a home when you’re comfortable in it.
Unfortunately, Doug and Sue Williams of Plymouth were uncomfortable with their kitchen and dining room. They called the colors “neutral,” and couldn’t find places for pots and pans. It didn’t feel right.
That changed in July 2008 when Orfield Design & Construction remodeled the space and brought the 1983 home into the 21st century.
I remember the phone call like it was yesterday.
“Nance?”
“Hi.”
“Um, I think you have a budding barber on your hands,” my neighbor/best friend said to me in a phone call some 16 years ago; I could sense tension in her voice. “He just cut K.K.’s hair.”
Gulp.
“He took out a good chunk out of the back; right at the nape of her neck,” she said.
Double gulp.
“I’ll be right over.”

TreeHouse, an Edina-based non-profit organization aiming to support and transform at-risk teens, is using this event as an opportunity for people to raise money and awareness for teenagers who are facing difficult times, including issues such as depression, bullying, sexual promiscuity, substance abuse and anger.

Magazine, and Minnesota regional developers Alicia Wagner and Laura Kottke open just the second Minnesota location in Plymouth last week with the help of franchisee Cindy Yared Turner. (Salons in Minnetonka and Roseville will be joining the Uptown location and this one soon.) If you ask me, the opportunity to try over 50 different wines is a good enough reason to attend any event. But when you can go to a public wine tasting while supporting a good community cause, it’s tough to justify not going.
The Music in Plymouth Endowment Fund (MIPEF) will be the worthy local cause reaping the benefits of a wine tasting from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, October 6 at the Plymouth Creek Center.
