For our food and wine issue, oenologist Nikki Erpelding, founder and owner of Vine Lab Wine & Spirits Academy and instructor for St. Paul College’s wine professional certificate program, shares some of her favorite books filled with wine knowledge.
“New to wine? The best introductory reference book is Wine Folly: The Essential Guide to Wine, by Madeline Puckette and Justin Hammack. I use this text in my St. Paul College wine professional course,” says Erpelding.
For those who have some wine knowledge and are looking for intermediate-level reading, Erpelding recommends The Wine Bible by Karen MacNeil, and another text that she uses in her wine professional course, The World Atlas of Wine, 8th edition, by Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson.
Erpelding’s favorite wine magazine is Decanter, available in print and online.
See Vine Lab Wine and Spirits’ website for wine recommendations and information about upcoming classes, offered at France 44 Wine & Spirits in Minneapolis as well as online and at Cotroneo’s Wine & Spirits in White Bear Lake.
