Roy Zhao can add semi-finalist for the 2013 U.S. Physics Team to his college applications. In an exam taken by nearly 4,500 high school students, only 406 qualified as semi-finalists, and Wayzata High School’s Zhao—featured in Plymouth Magazine’s January issue for scoring a perfect ACT—was one of them.Top performers from this semi-final test head to physics camp, in the hopes of making it to the international Olympiad in Denmark; unfortunately, Zhao fell just short of achieving his goal. “I feel like I gave it my best shot, knowing how that compared to the veterans who have already gone to the physics camp in previous years,” Zhao says.
