One summer evening, Chandra Whitfield of Plymouth was admiring the nature surrounding Medicine Lake. Standing on the covered bridge, Whitfield grabbed her camera and snapped this scene of the setting sun. The photo captures the familiar feelings of summer, warm sun reflecting off the water and the lush green surroundings.
Medicine Lake is a frequent stop for Whitfield. Close to home, she and her family enjoy going on nature walks and hikes to explore the area, cameras in tow. It also gives a chance for her two eldest sons, 8 and 6, to practice their own photography skills with their digital cameras. “It’s turned into a little family outing, we’ll go out on the weekends,” Whitfield says, “[Photography] is my away time and family time.”
Whitfield’s photography hobby blossomed with the birth of her first son; she says she never wanted to put the camera down. Now with three boys, her photography has expanded to include documenting the nature around her.
Currently, Whitfield’s favorite things to shoot are sunrises and sunsets, wildlife scenes and, of course, her kids. “I just really enjoy it, and if I can reach one person that sees the beauty of the picture, that makes me happy,” she says.
