Are green velvet and brass in or out this year? Is wallpaper still a no-no? What’s the latest take on mixing and matching metals? Staying on top of home design trends can be work! Lucky for us, we have some amazing designers in the area, including Jayne Morrison, who shared a few of-the-moment trends she’s hearing a lot about right now—and ways to bring them home without breaking the bank.
Go Mid-Century
“The biggest trend in furniture is the mid-century modern look. This is especially desirable to millennials and Gen Xers who are moving into homes built in the 1950s and 1960s,” says Morrison. Go all-in with a floor-to-ceiling room that looks like it walked out of a throwback magazine, or just try adding a single piece, like an accent chair. Mixing and matching is completely in right now, and clean MCM lines go with anything.
Color Trends
“For 2019, I am still seeing lots of the grays, but warmer grays and other warmer colors, too. The Benjamin Moore color of the year is Metropolitan, which is a cool gray,” Morrison says. “I am also seeing many beautiful blues and greens. And blush!” Try a timeless gray wall, but add fresh pops of color in art or accent pieces that can be swapped out easily.
Pedal to the Metal
“In finishes for accessories or light fixtures, the hottest finish right now is burnished gold,” says Morrison. “It’s a rich, warm gold. Certainly not the same as the polished brass that we’ve all had in the past!”
Faux Real
“Fake fur is very hot!” she adds. Afraid of going full-on Greta Garbo? Ease in with a throw or pillow that can be layered effortlessly on top of more laid-back pieces.
