Farmer Eidem and Spud Olson will plant a garden and a potato crop.

Kids can plant an herb to take home, and there will be new baby animals.

“We’ll have baby goats, sheep, chicks and a calf. There will also be grown chickens and ducks, and pony rides will be available,” says Eve Ericson, site manager for the homestead.

“Kids will probably be able to pet the baby sheep and goats, depending on how the animals are feeling that day. The calf might be too shy, but staff will be available to help guide families in interacting with the animals,” says Ericson.

There will be fresh baked goods from the kitchen available for sampling, and a Name the Cow contest.

“Our spring event is a great opportunity for families to connect with one another while enjoying the outdoor environment and meeting the animals,” says Ericson.

This historic farm was first homesteaded in the 1850s. In 1895, John Jr. and Lecta Eidem bought the 39-acre farm where they grew potatoes and other crops. The farm remained in the family until it was bought by the city of Brooklyn Park in 1976 to become a historical farm. The farm represents and preserves Brooklyn Park’s farming roots.
