When Rachel Hall picked up her camera to capture an explosive moment during last year’s Music in Plymouth fireworks show, she didn’t know if it would turn out. “It wasn’t until after the event that `I discovered this particular photo in my shots,” she says. “I was struck by the juxtaposition of the quietness of a single person, sitting alone in a lawn chair on the grand lawn, with his shadow illuminated by the explosive chaos of fireworks.”
Hall says that even though her kids have stopped going, she still enjoys viewing the show with friends at Millennium Garden, where it’s less noisy and hectic. She says that the deck of the Plymouth Creek Center served as the perfect place to set up a tripod and photograph the event.
Hall discovered the “joys of photography” about 10 years ago, and has been steadily practicing and shooting ever since. She started by shooting her kids’ sporting events as well as some vacations, but now takes her camera on walks and enjoys shooting local landscapes and wildlife. “A large percentage of my photography is taken within walking distance of home,” she says. “I feel fortunate to live in Plymouth with so many beautiful parks and natural areas to photograph.”
