Using plastic clubs, tennis ball-size Velcro orbs and above-ground targets, campers ages 5–8 can learn proper golf technique in an environment perfect for beginners. Partnering with the city of Plymouth, Skyhawks, a local youth sports camp provider, offers a Beginning Golf camp designed to build confidence and proper form in swinging, putting and body positioning.
“It’s a very affordable way to introduce kids to golf,” says Andrew Brown, Minnesota area manager for Skyhawks. All necessary equipment is provided, including a special safety helmet that all campers must wear. “By not having to purchase equipment [to participate] you can introduce your kid to golf, and it makes for a nice transition to playing on a golf course,” Brown says. Participants should wear appropriate clothing, running shoes, and sunscreen, and bring a water bottle and snack.
