Not many high schoolers can say they have their own CD, but then not all have the vocal and musical talent of Alexandra Tilton. Recorded when she was a junior at Providence Academy last year, Tilton released her first CD The Last Rose in October.
She and her mom came up with the neutral album cover idea The Last Rose on their way home from Oklahoma, Tilton says, which was where she recorded the album. Of the eight ballads on track, she says “Ave Maria” is her favorite, adding it is the first song she sang when she began voice lessons and has sung it at many church services and weddings since she was in middle school.
A singer, pianist and cellist, Tilton started singing in the children’s choir at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Wayzata when she was in second grade, and went on to cantor worship services at the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis. Still, she considers her first performance a solo from Vivaldi’s “Domine Deus” at a high school concert freshman year. When we talked to Tilton, she said she hadn’t decided between the eight different colleges she’s applied to, but plans to major in music performance and hopes to become a conductor.
