Late last summer there was a beautiful full moon that was casting a long white shadow on Medicine Lake. That’s when David Perdue, a five-year resident of the area, ran out to his dock just as a boat was pulling into a moonbeam.
“It was a photo of opportunity,” he says, adding he’s had a passion for photography since his college years when he received his first 35mm. “Much of my photography now focuses on family, though I have been doing more artistic photography lately experimenting with some very cool iphone apps that produce photos reminiscent of those I took when I was young.”
Perdue is the medical director for the American Indian Cancer Foundation in addition to his “day job” at Minnesota Gastroenterology in Plymouth. He and his wife, Nina, share their home with stepson Calvin Heffes, 13, sons Garett and Brycen, 8 and 6 respectively, and daughter Caroline, 3. The family’s favorite part of their hometown is it’s small-town feel, while still being so close to the larger metropolitan areas. “The school system is outstanding, as are the athletic associations and other activities for the kids,” Perdue says. “Plymouth’s propinquity to Wayzata and Lake Minnetonka is also a plus.”

David Perdue is working on a series called “off the dock”—as you might have guessed, all the photos are taken on or around the family’s lakeshore. “We had a timber wolf last winter on the ice, eagles, cranes and other animals, as well as sunsets, ice fisherman and more,” he says.
