The site, founded in 2009 by Plymouth residents Duane and Linda Crandall, streamlines and simplifies the pickup process by putting it in the donor’s hands.
By following just three steps (gathering your unwanted, new or gently used clothing or household items; scheduling a pickup; and placing the items outside on the date of your choice), donors are able to give back to their favorite charities at a time that is most convenient to them.
When reflecting on the founding of their new business venture, Duane and Linda say they were looking for a way to make the process completely donor-centric. “We thought, ‘Why don’t we just have one site and build a Travelocity of sorts for in-kind giving?’” Duane says.
Donors are able to select the charity that will receive their items, and all pickups are tax-deductible. Currently gooddonor.org is in 11 markets throughout the country, including cities like New York, Denver and Seattle, and coordinates with charitable organizations like the Lupus Foundation, Courage Center, Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, Vietnam Veterans Association and more.
