For the first time in Plymouth, local anglers can get their kids out on the waters of Parkers Lake to help support both city and Rotary at the Kids Fishing event July 15.
Sponsored by FIN (the Department of Natural Resources’ Fishing in the Neighborhood program), the event teaches kids and their parents how to develop fishing skills such as casting, knowledge of fish breeds and bait, and more.
“The partnership with the Rotary formed because the Rotary hosts our fishing contest at the Fire and Ice event,” says Travis Karlen, recreation supervisor for city of Plymouth. “Their support for the event keeps the cost low and develops community. The event gives kids who wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to fish for the first time.”
Most gear is provided, but participants must bring their own fishing pole. The good news? The first 50 registrants receive a free rod/reel combo.
