Music and Tradition

The Minnesota Orchestra returns to the stage for the can’t-miss 42nd annual Music in Plymouth.
Crowds anticipate the annual Music in Plymouth festivities.

In 1972, Music in Plymouth began as a small gathering on a vacant lot in the
Minneapolis Industrial Park. Fast forward 42 years, and the get-together has
become a must-attend summer extravaganza anticipated by thousands of Plymouth
residents and others from the surrounding communities each summer.

Starting at 5 p.m. July 1, more than 15,000 people will join together to lay
down their picnic blankets, enjoy the numerous concessions options and festival
activities, and bond with the members of their community while watching a
variety of lively music performances on the stage of the Hilde Performance
Center.

This year, after a long strike that knocked them off the docket for the first
time in the event’s history in 2013, the Minnesota Orchestra is welcomed back to
the stage. Other musical entertainment includes singer-songwriter Alison Scott,
country rock septet Maiden Dixie and Mu Daiko Japanese drumming. As always, a
dazzling fireworks display will close the evening.
