Making Childcare Accessible

Creating space and providing money for kids from low-income families.

Child care centers can leave parents between a rock and a hard place, choosing between low cost and a quality space. That’s why a few Plymouth community partners have joined forces to improve the accessibility of childcare in the area.

Congregation member Rev. Tabitha Isner of Plymouth Creek Christian Church notes that the childcare market in Minnesota is one of the most expensive in the country. To help extend accessibility, the church is joining forces with Interfaith Outreach & Community Partners and Yellow Brick Road Child Care Center to expand its current program. “This really felt to [the church] like a ministry we’d love to do,” Isner says. The church will provide the new physical space for the program, IOCP’s Caring for Kids Initiative will provide scholarships to children from low-income families and Yellow Brick Road will help build a quality program, hoping to expand and offer spots to even more children this fall.

With a contracted staff of teachers, Yellow Brick Road’s Kristy Couture says the center is able to foster quality relationships between children and teachers.
