Healthy Holiday Treats

Kids get the chance to make healthy snacks.
Sarah Ptacek and her son, Ethan, create healthy treats together.

Looking for healthier options during the holidays for your kids? Plymouth offers Healthy Hands Cooking classes for a young child along with a parent, and one for older children.

During the class, little chefs will learn how to make yummy, healthier, single-serving desserts with less sugar and no artificial ingredients. The kids will be able to bring their own creations home afterwards. A couple of the recipes include Cranberry Peppermint Reindeer Bites and a Holiday Star Sandwich.

Instructor Sarah Ptacek says she came across Healthy Hands Cooking when looking for an activity to do with her son outside of the house. “It’s a great way for kids to learn the basic understanding of good foods and how to fuel their bodies and prepare for the future while making healthy eating choices,” she says.

Ptacek also teaches themed classes such as Heart Healthy Valentine, Think & Eat Green and Cooking with Herbs. Ptacek says she’s excited to start teaching in the Twin Cities area and is beginning to offer classes for college students and adults. “Making healthy recipes is a fun way to empower others to make the best decisions,” she says.
