Families Moving Forward Provides Shelter and Meals for Local Families Experiencing Homelessness

A source of stability for families in need

Since 1991, the Families Moving Forward program—first an unofficial network of churches, and now part of the Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative—has been providing a safe place to stay for families experiencing homelessness. As part of a network of more than 60 host congregations, St. Philip the Deacon opens its doors three weeks each year to provide food, shelter and entertainment for these families. The program runs on a schedule: during the day, children attend school and their parents work or search for housing, employment and resources at the program center. In the evening, the host congregation serves dinner along with evening entertainment and a place to stay for the night. The majority of this depends on volunteer services and donations. The next time St. Philip the Deacon will host families is May 3–10.
