Enjoy the Ski Hills at Elm Creek Park Reserve This Winter

For those who are interested in exploring the delight of skiing and developing it into a lifelong sport, it is not too late to join a class at the SnowSports Academy at Elm Creek Park Reserve this month. The academy offers ski lessons for all skill levels, and adults and children.

Luke Williams, director of SnowSports Academy, got into skiing when he was 4 years old “For me it is something that I enjoy. It can get me outside and gives me something to just relax and do,” he says.

“You will get the right instructions and skill sets from a professional who has been teaching and knows the correct position, how to turn, how to stop and how to get safely from the top to the bottom of the hill,” Williams says.

For children, their most common frustration is seeing other peers accelerate faster than them. To tackle this problem, Williams recommends focusing on personal progress. “Everybody has different muscle mass development. Just work on your own skills and you will eventually reach there,” he says.

His biggest tip? “The big thing is just to stay with it. Just get out and ski, and do it a few times a year,” Williams says.

Both adults’ and kids’ lessons will be offered on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays; Time slots for Thursdays and Fridays are at 7 p.m.; Time slots for weekends are 9 a.m., 11 a.m. 1:15 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. Classes are 1 hour and 30 minutes; A three-week class costs $135, a six-week class costs $255, rental for equipment is $10.
