Blue Leaf Cosmetics Provides All-natural Alternatives

Luscious soap with simple ingredients: mango butter, avocado oil, castor oil, olive oil, coconut oil and cocoa butter. It’s scented with a fragrance called black opium.

For years, Mallory Leider had been interested in starting her own business, but never seemed to be in a position to be able to do so. “I have been making handmade skincare products just for myself for 10 years,” says Leider, a Robbinsdale resident. Recently, however, she was able to make her dream come true by launching Blue Leaf Cosmetics—a brand of soaps, bath bombs and bath salts that are 94 percent natural.

The idea for Blue Leaf Cosmetics originated when Leider’s 1-year-old son was struggling with eczema. Instead of buying lotion from the store that claims to be “all natural,” she wanted to make something that was simple and straight to the point. “It worked wonders for us,” she says, and after sharing it with other moms, she received positive feedback.

Blue Leaf Cosmetics is fairly new, having only started this past spring when Leider began selling salves made with three ingredients. Currently, Leider has put more of a focus on soap. She says that one unique thing about her product is that it does not include palm oil, which many other soaps have. It is also vegan. Leider’s favorite part about her business is the creativity that she is able to put into it; she enjoys all the planning that is involved with deciding on the ingredients and herbs to use.
