How to Make Ana's Tostadas

Ana Rayas of La Cocina de Ana knows how to make mean tostadas. Learn from the master:

Corn tostadas
Refried beans, warmed
Shredded meat (like beef tinga, pork or chicken in poblano sauce, or rotisserie chicken), warmed
Sliced avocado
Crumbled queso fresco or queso cotija
Pickled red onion (if desired)

Spread a portion of refried beans on a tostada, top with shredded meat, slices of avocado, pickled onions and crumbled cheese. Read more about How to Make Ana's Tostadas

Budding Barber

I remember the phone call like it was yesterday.

“Nance?”

“Hi.”

“Um, I think you have a budding barber on your hands,” my neighbor/best friend said to me in a phone call some 16 years ago; I could sense tension in her voice. “He just cut K.K.’s hair.”

Gulp.

“He took out a good chunk out of the back; right at the nape of her neck,” she said.

Double gulp.

“I’ll be right over.” Read more about Budding Barber
