Recently, the minds at TreeHouse Youth were brainstorming ways to increase awareness of their program when the idea of a basketball shoot-off came up. “We really wanted something that isn’t being done,” TreeHouse director of development, community advancement and growth Lisa Stordahl recalls. “We have a great TreeHouse Gala, but not everyone can afford a ticket. We wanted to plan something that everyone could be involved with—a community-wide event.”
Thus, Hoopin’ it Up for Hope was born, a fundraiser built around basketball. The money raised will support TreeHouse, a nonprofit organization that not only provides resources for at-risk teens, but is dedicated to providing follow-through for youth already in the program.
The event is being sponsored in part by the Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx. It will consist of a shoot-off that will involve four skill-level appropriate brackets divided into teams of five. Winners of each bracket will get the chance to participate in a shoot-off during the half time of a future Timberwolves game. There also will be prizes awarded to those who raise the most funds. In addition to the shoot-off, watch for concessions, a silent auction, OptumHealth health fair and other events designed to ensure the whole family has a great time.
