College sophomore Angela Sandall has been taking photos for as long as she can remember, though she says it truly became an art form for her in her junior high years. This photo of her youngest brother Danny, 8, was taken in her parents’ Plymouth driveway on the Fourth of July 2010.
“I love photographing people more than anything else,” she says. “Being able to capture a beautiful moment is what inspires me.” The Sandalls moved from Chicago when Angela was 3; now her mom Laura, dad Pete and three younger brothers (Nick, 16, David, 10, and Danny) serve as her inspiration from afar, as she’s returned to the city of her birth to attend Loyola University.
“Plymouth is such a nurturing and exciting place to live,” she says. “It was the perfect place to grow up. The abundance of parks and trails gave me plenty of things to do, not to mention the fantastic classes and sports teams that kept me busy during the summers. Now that I’m living in a big city I miss a lot of things about the suburbs, although city life has presented me with a whole new and exciting set of challenges.”
Back in town for her first summer after college, she divulges her secret to finding great photography: Going anywhere there are people interacting and sharing smiles and stories.
