When Interfaith Outreach (IOCP) opened doors near county roads 101 and 6, it introduced a new program: ReSale 101. A larger version of the “clothing closet” IOCP had at its former location, ReSale 101 is an entirely volunteer-run program that collects and provides clothing and household items for IOCP clients. The store also acts as a fundraiser for other IOCP programs, as anyone can shop there. So far the store has made more than $70,000.
What’s especially unique about the store is that the teen section is run entirely by teens. Sue London, liaison to the teen advisory council and Plymouth resident, says the store is a great way for teens to get involved and get retail experience.
Currently more than 200 volunteers run ReSale 101, and even before the store opened, community members were making a difference; Trinity Lutheran Church in Long Lake acted as a storage space, and the congregation collected donations as well.
Plymouth resident Lisa Terfehr has volunteered for more than a year and is in charge of training volunteers. She says she feels privileged to be a part of IOCP, adding ReSale 101 is a place where “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” Nancy Holden, development co-director for IOCP, agrees: “The store provides clients access to quality items at an affordable rate.”
