Get worlds away from Tax Day this year at Wayzata High School’s third annual Festival of Nations.
About 30 countries will be represented, as students set up booths and bring cultural artifacts from home to showcase. The event is an opportunity to learn about world cultures, according to John Sucansky, communications specialist for Wayzata Public Schools. “Elementary school students love having a passport [which are stamped at each country] to take home as a memento, that says, ‘Hey! Look at all the places I went to,’” he says of the family-friendly event.
Stop by for dancing, music and food, which feature Indian and Greek delights this year catered by Bokhara and Santorini, (the perfect balance of soul-warming curry and cool, crisp salads).
Check out the goods for sale at the bazaar, which included ethnic jewelry and cookbooks last year. There will be various entertainers throughout the night including a fashion show, with students striking glamorous poses on stage, a bagpiper and Indian (Bollywood), Russian and Colombian dancing. If you’re so inclined, put your best foot forward, too, by dressing up to celebrate your own cultural heritage.
