Perhaps it was Danny Dobrin’s eight years as an advertising copywriter that spawned award-worthy creativity. More likely, he says, it was his children (Hailey, 5, and Nyla, 1), who continue to be his daily inspiration. Regardless of the cause, the results are stunning images worthy of first place in the Activities category of 2011’s Picture Plymouth competition.
Dobrin, who now works in project management for advertising/marketing agency Morsekode, has lived in Plymouth the past 10 years with wife Andrea. “I never know what will inspire me,” he says. “I'm just very observant and try to capture unique moments that tell a story and move people.”
Plymouth’s abundance of parks is a favorite aspect of the city, says Dobrin. So on a crisp October 2010 day in Reserve Park, he went about trying to capture the innocence and ethereal beauty of a child's world. The result: Night Swinging, in which eldest daughter Hailey is featured.
“I don’t really have a secret spot,” Dobrin says of the locale. “My secret is, ‘Always be aware of the world around you.’ It leads to incredible photographs.”
