Between hosting her own radio show once a week on various disability topics, teaching adults with disabilities how to read Braille and use technology, and playing on a dart league for sighted and unsighted people, Plymouth’s Sam Jasmine somehow found time to design and manufacture her own dart board for the visually impaired.
The Audio Dart Master is a fully accessible dart board that talks through actions and instructions for those who are visually impaired, yet still displays numbers comparable to traditional dart boards for standard use. Jasmine—blind herself since an early childhood battle with cancer—developed the idea after noticing the poor performance of the 20-year-old boards used in Minneapolis-based Twin Cities Blind Audio Dart League. “I saw this as an opportunity, certainly not to make a lot of money, but to show people that this is a fun recreational sport that can incorporate everyone,” Jasmine says.
