If you look closely at Joan Solomon’s nature-inspired artwork, you’ll find tiny faces peering back at you.
These faces are a large part of her newest creation, “Elements of Harmony,” on display at the Plymouth Library, one of Hennepin County's many libraries that boast sustainable features. Keeping with the theme, Solomon’s installation is made of completely sustainable materials, including bamboo paper, recycled soda bottles and recycled fabric.
The installation can be found in an area above the entrance as well as in the children’s section, which features a smaller recreation of the larger design above the entrance. Children can find faces in the smaller version, then go and search for them in the larger one as well.
Solomon says, “My hope is they can find the faces in the picture, then go over to the big one and look for the faces up there.” After that, they can “go outside and look for faces in the clouds because the more we connect with nature, the more likely we are to save the environment.”
